Does Your Patient Have an Eating Disorder? - Rebecca Cooper

Description:
How do you treat dysfunction eating patterns in a substance abuse treatment center? Many recovering people start using food instead of their addiction of choice. Some people in early recovery will relapse because of their increase in weight, food obsession, binge eating, food addictions, disordered eating, or eating disorder. Eating disorders are often a precursor to substance abuse. There are some foods that use the same neuro-pathways as addictive drugs.  Learn the importance of a correct assessment, determine the right level of treatment and in what setting will a patient with an eating disorder recover.

Description:
The ASAM Criteria are the most widely used and comprehensive set of guidelines for assessment, service planning, placement, continued stay and transfer/discharge of people with addictive disorders.  As funding and care shifts from fee for service to other financing mechanisms such as case rates, capitation and population health, treatment will also need to move from volume to value-driven services.

This presentation will highlight how The ASAM Criteria can help providers, payers and administrators design, deliver and pay for the flexible continuum of disease management services needed to survive healthcare transitions.

Objectives:
1. Review current trends in healthcare financing, reform and reengineering.
2. Identify how The ASAM Criteria can help design and deliver services in an era of changing funding mechanisms.

CE Info: Code E03 :: Panel Discussion :: 1.25 CE hours Approved for APA and ASWB

TITLE:
The "NOT IN MY BACKYARD" Climate: Important tips for California, Florida and Texas substance abuse treatment providers.

DESCRIPTION:
There are a variety of factors that greatly impact the startup or expansion of services within the substance abuse treatment market in the three top recovery states; California, Florida and Texas. These include but are not limited to the development of a plan of operation, policies and procedures, clinical competencies, local zoning requirements and current state legislation. One must plan ahead to stay ahead.
The current proposed legislative bills driven by local cities, particularly those in California, strictly limit the number of residential treatment centers and sober living homes. Any owner who doesn’t follow the city rules will be forced to shut down before they even open. Also, all indications are that sober living homes will soon require licensure similar to traditional residential programs.

OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this webinar, attendees will:
1. Recognize key challenges posed by current 'Not In My Backyard' legislation in top three recovery states; CA, FL and TX specific to Treatment Centers and Sober Living Homes and why it matters to your agency.
2. Discern the required staffing, training and competencies specific in each state provided to prevent costly hiring mistakes.
3. Identify the actions steps essential to opening or expanding your treatment center seamlessly.

Title: The Times They Are A-Changin': Designing and implementing de novo treatment program with integrity

Presentation synopsis:
The substance abuse treatment and behavioral health fields have recently grown and expanded at an extraordinary pace and continue to do so.  In this presentation we will describe how 3 factors have led this growth – Parity Legislation, the Affordable Care Act and the marketing and proliferation of prescription opioids.  All of these events have led to an increase in interest in the substance abuse treatment field both by those in this field and notably, by those previously outside of our field. This, in turn, has led to a swell of new business partners and business practices.  Our field now has the attention of investors, marketers, media experts, advertisers, diagnostic laboratories, pharmacogenomics experts, design groups, billing and patient management companies as well as therapists, counselors, nurses and physicians.  We also present the challenges of a de novo roll-out of comprehensive treatment programs, selecting locations and real estate, facing zoning boards and community opposition (the NIMBY issue) and designing the building for delivering various clinical programs.  Finally, from experience in implementing evidence-based practices in over 250 public and private treatment programs, we show how a cost-effective, evidence-based continuum of care can be offered by all treatment systems.
